Ten Movie Formats -Ryan TerMolen

Todd-AO film type

Introduced in 1955 and was a great way to film musicals. The style came about because Paul Thomas Anderson wanted to one-up the person before him and improve the widescreen and sound performance abilities, Todd-AO was run on 70mm film, was the first type of film to run at 30fps and have great sound quality. This type of film was well known for the Sound of Music, Oklahoma and many others.

Sound of Music

Techniscope:

Introduced in 1963 came as an adaptation to Cinemascope and even though the film grade was actually lower than Cinemascope (meaning it was worse quality) it was used until 1980 and was used because it only took half of the film to film than Cinemascope, which was a huge advancement because it originally took a huge amount of film just for one scene, where as Cinemascope took that amount and cut it in half. Cinemascope is mostly famous for filming Once Upon a Time in the West and many Lucio Fulci horror films.

Famous Still Lucio Fulci Zombi 2
