Rhythm and Poetry Vivi

VIVI FILM REVIEW

As a whole, I thought that this movie was one of the most touching and eye opening things that I have seen and it makes it even more real that this documentary was filmed by real students at my very own school that I see in the hallways on an everyday basis. I didn't realize the heavy impact poetry had on students and their emotions, and it made me realize the importance of not judging a book by its cover and how strongly that can actually affect someone. It made me realize that kids are too often put in difficult situations with no way to express their own emotions, and this in itself is dangerous and detrimental. But poetry and rap provides an outlet for those emotions, and in a way provide a way of story telling without relly feeling like you're just telling someone about your life. It paints a vivid, and more emotional picture. But more importantly, the documentary helped me realize that the culture and social aspect of our society is too heavy set on money, politics, and government that is stirring a revolution, seen through poets, artists and other words and expressions of feelings. This documentary was phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Nick Erhart Movie Review

Nick Erhart

As a music critic I really enjoyed this film. The way the film showed the students at ETHS expressed their poetry. Poetry is a type of art, like music. The way the documentary portrays the different students ways of presenting their style is a great thing to see. It is very important to be unique in the art industry and seeing students being able to present somewhat private events in a poem or rap form is outstanding to me. The idea of the documentary was a success and was highly enjoyable to watch. Being able to know how other people work, almost as if behind the scenes of the young minds that produce such thought provoking, well created poems. This documentary, Rhythm & Poetry showed me 'behind the curtains' of what it's really like for these young, artistic, creative minds and how they express through poetry.

Ryan TerMolen Rhythm and Rhyme Review

Overall I really believe the documentary captured the essence of what poetry was and is now and how it compares to hip hop, I believe the students really poured their heart out into their poetry and expressed themselves in their own words which is what poetry is about. I thought the documentary was great and as an ETHS student thought it was great to see my peers, classmates and friends doing something they feel deeply about, some of these kids I would've never guessed had these things to say. Hip-hop culture is something relatively new to this generation and I feel as if hip hop and poetry are one in the same but one without a beat. The documentary was great and I felt that it was done very well, I know it is just a rough cut however some of the footage was a bit shaky and not that clear, I hope in the real cut the shaky footage can be settled and steadied, however other than a minor issue of shaky footage I thought it was done very well                                                                                                   and it is ice to see fellow ETHS students doing what                                                                                                     they feel passionate about.

Ferenc Zoltan Rhythm and Poetry Review

After watching the very interesting documentary Rhythm and Poetry created by the ETHS Filmmaker. The film really gets to the heart of Poetry and Hip Hop/Rap music and how they are so similar yet so different in so many different ways. I feel it depends on who it is who is reciting their amazing works of art, some people give it a music beat to their poems yet others go in the other direction which gives it a more personal feel and you can almost relate to you it and feel they are only talking to you   People today do not recognize what most people go through and through this method of express people's feelings and these poets in the film made it so much more intense and overall a better film. These people made the film great with all their hard work that they express over these competitions. If you know those kids like I do everything they say is coming straight from the heart and for them it's a great way to express all their emotions held up from their pasts.  I would highly recommend this film even though they did not succeed in making it into Louder than a Bomb they succeeded in getting their feeling expressed which was amazing. Overall a great film

Ferenc Zoltan 10 movie formats that shook the world

Techniscope
1960 Italy was a cheaper way to create films and gave the image a different look not only on the screen but way stuff looked like in the film.
It gave the film a dirty gritty look to it to make it look somewhat old and in westerns more intense. For certain genres this movie format was extremely good while for others it was a bad idea. It could throw off the way the movie looked and could almost give it a false pretense to what the movie is going to be about.

IMAX
was created in 1970 and it had a clear picture that could show more depth of color bringing the picture to life and changing the format of movies. It changed the way people can view the movies. It started from a small group in Canada but quickly spread and as of today the newest way to watch movies.

Movie Formats

Kinetoscope:
The Kinetoscope is one of the original pieces of technology. It was introduced in 1894 and was based off the chronophotographic gun.  The kinetoscope was a single-viewer device that gave access to watch films through a peep-hole. This was revolutionary and was the start on how we watch films today. This device created the earliest type of actors performing roles for the camera.

Example Of Kinetoscope Film:

IMAX:
IMAX was introduced in 1970, IMAX creates a single massive image to create a bigger impact. IMAX was came from a small team in canada and soon went on to surpass and replace all its's predecessors. IMAX theaters can be found almost anywhere and give the audience a new way to experience a movie. As IMAX says themselves, the ultimate movie experience.

Todd-AO film type

Introduced in 1955 and was a great way to film musicals. The style came about because Paul Thomas Anderson wanted to one-up the person before him and improve the widescreen and sound performance abilities, Todd-AO was run on 70mm film, was the first type of film to run at 30fps and have great sound quality. This type of film was well known for the Sound of Music, Oklahoma and many others.

Techniscope:

Introduced in 1963 came as an adaptation to Cinemascope and even though the film grade was actually lower than Cinemascope (meaning it was worse quality) it was used until 1980 and was used because it only took half of the film to film than Cinemascope, which was a huge advancement because it originally took a huge amount of film just for one scene, where as Cinemascope took that amount and cut it in half. Cinemascope is mostly famous for filming Once Upon a Time in the West and many Lucio Fulci horror films.
